Saint Francis Hospital Hosts Ribbon Cutting for da Vinci Xi
May 30, 2017New Technology Provides More Options for Minimally Invasive Surgery
(For Immediate Release – May 31, 2017) Saint Francis Hospital –Memphis hosted a ribbon cutting and open house to feature the new technology on Tuesday, May 23rd. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System further complements the hospital’s minimally-invasive robotic surgery capabilities. The da Vinci Xi system is the next frontier for minimally invasive surgery, combining the latest assisted surgical technology which allows for easier access to targeted areas. Moreover, the equipment grants for optimized highly complex, multi-quadrant surgery and simpler, single-quadrant surgery. A special thanks to our physicians and the Memphis Chamber supporting the event.
“As a surgeon, the da Vinci Xi system gives me greater flexibility and control over more areas of the body,” said D. Alan Hammond, MD, general surgeon. “Patients appreciate the opportunity for less scarring, recovering more quickly and going home faster.”
Initially adopted for prostatectomies and gynecology, the da Vinci Xi robot is becoming more commonly employed in general surgery in the last few years. Today, the da Vinci Xi can be used in hernia repair, thoracic surgery and abdominal procedures including gallbladder, colorectal and a number of other procedures.
“We are pleased to offer additional advances in minimally invasive surgical options to our community,” said Audrey E. Gregory, Ph.D., CEO of Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis and Saint Francis Healthcare. “The da Vinci Xi allows surgeons to manage more complex procedures with greater precision and accuracy.”
